Description

This event is a true blessing as you get to learn from my good friend Desert-Rain who loves to weave and has lots of wisdom to share with us from her culture and experience.

Desert-Rain is a Noongar woman from Pibulman Country in Western Australia. She has lots of unusual life experiences including 10 years in the military, 5 years living off-grid in Nimbin and over 10 years practising healing modalities including plant medicines, energy work, nature-based and traditional Indigenous practices. These days she combines being a full-time student, stay at home mum and community wise woman sharing her knowledge and passion with those around her. Throughout all these different experiences there have been two constants…good tea and weaving.

Throughout all these different experiences there have been two constants…good tea and weaving.

Tea has amazing health benefits but always allows its consumers to relax, open up and share their vulnerabilities. Weaving is a natural complement, allowing participants to focus their intention and energy into exploring, healing and letting go of whatever thoughts and feelings arise within the group, but still giving individuals clarity and insight into themselves.

Weaving whilst drinking tea allows us to leave the busyness of the world behind and just be present at the moment to what is, giving us space to breathe, process and integrate. Coiled basket weaving is a technique shared by most Indigenous cultures all around the world. Desert-Rain has learned this technique from many teachers and will share some of the simple steps to enable you to make your very own teapot coaster using paper raffia, and you will take a kit home with you to explore even further in your own time. In the future, there will be opportunities to apply these techniques using natural plant fibres for exciting new projects!
